Historically, some of the more pronounced effects have been those of macropsia and micropsia. Macropsia is described as objects appearing much larger than they are, causing the person experiencing it to feel very small, while Micropsia is the exact opposite, in which a person may feel very large as the objects in their vision appear to grow very small. This particular effect is typically considered to be how the mushrooms became known as the ”Alice in Wonderland mushrooms”, after such an effect was featured in the 1865 story, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, when the aforementioned protagonist consumed mushrooms. These effects can occur simultaneously and/or alternately, which is known as Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. Also predominant in historical accounts are phenomena such as synesthesia, auditory or visual hallucinations, and lucid dreaming while under the influence of fly Amanita.
In general, one can expect feelings of dizziness (possibly experienced as ”flying”), flushing of the skin, nausea after half an hour or so that then subsides, possible numbness of the feet (may also possibly be experienced as ”flying”), and then twilight sleep (the point in which lucid dreaming may occur), and hallucinations.
Some people describe three stages of effects: first the nausea/body effects stage, the second sedated/dreamy state, and the third stage during which the active psychedelic effects predominate. Other effects one may, or may not, experience are that of euphoria, feelings of peace and well being, marked pain relief, physical relaxation/dream state which can be can be highly detailed or colorful, out of body experience/”ego death”, strong sense of an internal discussion, or alternatively a significant reduction of internal dialogue/internal quiet, mild to strong confusion, increased imagination, imagery or day dreams, decreased sociability or non-linear conversations, increased sexual feelings or, on the other hand, very unsexual emotional coldness, blurred vision, watery eyes, runny nose, increased salivation, pupil dilation, muscle twitching and trembling, strong dissociation and delirium at high doses.
”It was like knowing everything and knowing nothing at the same time. Always learning in the hope of finding out and getting ever closer to the goal, but then realizing that it's all been done before and that I was never meant to find out at all...On and on, faster and faster. Each rotation of the loop getting smaller and smaller...This must be what it's all about, this is going to be the real lesson here I can feel it. The loop turns into a blur and I'm obviously at the end of it. Then BANG. The loop was part of a loop.”
